Month 1 — Pratham Maasa

First Trimester

Weeks 1-4: Fertilization and implantation. The embryo (Kalala) is a tiny cluster of cells embedding into the uterine wall.

🙏Ayurvedic Principle — Pratham Maasa

Kalala (embryonic jelly) forms. Nourish with sweet, cold, liquid foods to support implantation.

Classical Regimen (Charaka Samhita)

Charaka prescribes cold, sweet, liquid diet (sheeta, madhura, drava ahara). Milk boiled with Shatavari and sweetened with honey. No heavy exertion. Avoid hot, spicy, or pungent foods that may disturb the delicate implantation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Garbhini Paricharya?
Garbhini Paricharya is the month-by-month pregnancy care regimen described in Charaka Samhita (Sharira Sthana, Chapter 8). It prescribes specific diets, lifestyle practices, and Ayurvedic preparations for each month to support healthy fetal development and maternal well-being.
Can I follow Ayurvedic pregnancy diet along with my doctor's advice?
Yes, Garbhini Paricharya focuses on wholesome foods and lifestyle — milk, ghee, rice, fruits, and cooked vegetables are its foundation. Always follow your obstetrician's advice as the primary guide. Use Ayurvedic principles as complementary wisdom, especially for traditional Indian foods and home remedies.
Why does each pregnancy month have a different diet?
Each month focuses on different fetal developments — month 1 is implantation (liquid foods), months 4-6 are rapid growth (protein and iron focus), month 8 is vulnerable (gentle diet), and month 9 is delivery prep (dates and oleation). Both Ayurveda and modern science agree that nutritional needs change throughout pregnancy.
